Objective:
To study the psychological status of third year dental medicine students.
Method:
The self assessment test was carried out in the Faculty of Dental Medicine, Medical University-Plovdiv, Bulgaria in 2013. The third year students filled anonymous individual inquiries. The questionnaire consisted of twenty questions for self measuring the physical signs of their psychological status. Data were analyzed by statistical software SPSS 13.0.
Result:
All the third year students (n=104) filled the inquiries. 29.8% have 3-4 cups of caffeine drinks (coffee or tea) per day. 10.6% of the respondents feel tired all of the time. Almost 70% of the studied students suffer from sleep disorders. 33.7% never visited their general practitioner during the last year. For vegetative manifestations report 70.2% of the participants. 4.8% show constant problems with gastrointestinal system. 41.3% of the students consume more alcohol as usual. 44.2% report for rare but refractory headaches.
Conclusion:
At this stage of their education, dental medicine students can balance their physical problems such as: chronic fatigue, sleep disorders, headaches, breast and heart pain and gastrointestinal complaints without special medical help. The increased consumption of caffeine and alcohol drinks helps them to overcome the physical manifestations of psychological pressure
