To compare the satisfaction level of use of high-speed turbine and electrical handpiece 1:5 between students of 2nd and 5th year of Dentistry Degree, and compare the quality of cavity preparation fabricated with both instruments.
Method:
40 students (20 of 2nd and 20 of 5th year) each one cut two Class I preparations, one with an air turbine Bora L (Bien-Air Dental SA, Bienne, Switzerland) and the other with an electric high-speed handpiece 1:5 controlled by Optimax Internal (Bien-Air Dental SA, Bienne, Switzerland). Each preparation had 3mmx2mmx2mm. Before and after the in vitro experiment, each student fills in a questionnaire to know their level of knowledge and satisfaction. After that, faculty members evaluated the preparations using a nine-point scale
Result:
The level of satisfaction of use of turbine was higher than high speed handpiece in both courses. The mean satisfaction of turbine in 2nd year was 8.27 and in 5th year was 8.8 in front of the level of high-speed handpiece in 2nd year was 5.06 and in 5th year was 6.62. The range of quality preparations was higher in the group of 5th year with two instruments (6.92±1.49; 7.5±1.31) in front of the scores obtained in 2nd year group (5.55±2.46; 5.12±2.61)
Conclusion:
Both groups prefer use turbine over an electrical handpiece. The quality of preparations was higher in 5th year.
