A New Toothpaste In The Treatment Of Dentine Hypersensitivity

Objectives: The purpose was to evaluate a combined effect of active ingredients contained in Plidenta ProSensitive toothpaste in reducing dentine hypersensitivity in 80 participants aged 16 to 55 years. Methods: Patients were equally divided in two groups: experimental group used ProSensitive  toothpaste with active ingredients potassium nitrate and zinc citrate; control group used the same toothpaste without active ingredients. Dentine hypersensitivity was estimated by using VAS scale (Visual Analogue Scale). Data was collected on dental history and periodontal parameters, i.e. plaque (Sillnes & Loe Plaque Index) and gingival bleeding (Saxer & Mühlemann Papilla Bleeding Index) in both groups. Statistical analysis was performed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA), t-test and the Mann-Whitney U test. Results: A significant reduction in dentine hypersensitivity (26% after 2 weeks vs. 39% after 4 weeks) and reduction to water stimulus (29% after 2 weeks vs. 40% after 4 weeks) was detected in the experimental group. A decrease in gingival inflammation was15%. Plaque was reduced by 11%. Conclusion: Regular usage of Plidenta ProSensitive toothpaste containing active ingredients proved to be clinically efficient after 4 weeks of usage and could be recommended in treating hypersensitive teeth. Plidenta ProSensitive thus proved to be effecient in maintaining healthy gums and keeping healthy flora, which further helps prevent tooth decay
