Methods: Dentin beams were untreated, demineralized with 10% phosphoric acid for 12 h (PA) or EDTA-treated for 6 d and submitted to infiltration with different experimental resins 1) neat resin UDMA/Bis-GMA/TEGDMA/HEMA (30/10/20/30 wt%), 2) resin with 90 wt% Tri-calcium silicate (TCS) mixed with 10 wt% β-Tri-Calcium phosphate (TCP), 3) resin with Bioglass 45S5. Filler/resin ratio was 40/60. After polymerization, beams were stored in artificial saliva. C-terminal telopeptide (ICTP) determinations by radioimmunoassay were performed in the supernatants after 24h, 1 and 4 wk. ANOVA and Student-Newman-Keuls multiple comparisons were performed. Differences between storage times were analyzed by Friedman's and Wilcoxon pair-wise tests (p<0.05).
Results: Mean (SD) of ICTP (mg/l) are shown. Letters in rows and numbers in columns indicate significant differences.
Conclusions: Resin highly reduced collagen cleaving by MMPs. Both bioactive fillers, but in particular Bioglass 45S5 included in adhesive resin result in protection of MMP-mediated collagen degradation.
