canal transportation after preparation by Air Motor or Endo IT

Objectives:One of the accidental procedures in endodontic therapy which may affect the prognosis is canal transportation. Various electromotor have been designed to control speed and torque of rotary instruments.

The aim of this study was comparing the canal transportation among two systems, air motor & electromotor after use of Protaper files.

METHODS:This in-vitro randomized controlled study was carried out on 26 mesial canals of human's matured mandibular molars with mild curvature (10-35 degrees).Root length in all samples was considered 10mm, then all of them mounted in endodontic cube by acrylic resin and at three sections of 2,6, 10 mm from apex were prepared. Canal preparation was done by Protaper rotary instrument in 2 groups: A: Endo IT electromotor. B: Air driven hand piece.

Before and after preparation Photograph views were evaluated. The mean canal transportation determined.

RESULTS:Comparing the rate of transportation toward internal or external walls between the two mentioned groups was not significant. Comparison the rate of transportation of sections within one group was not significant.

Between two groups; apart from their sections, totally wasn't a significant different.

CONCLUSIONS:According to results of this study, use of Protaper system even with Endo IT or Air motor without any perfect able, is safe in clinical use.
