Bone Healing Using Tooth Ash with PRP and Fibrin Sealant

Objectives: Recently, concerns on materials which could give an efficacy on generalized bone graft are increasing. The aim of this study was to conduct histomorphometric analysis of bone healing in the calvaria of rabbits, using a tooth ash powder associated with PRP and fibrin sealnat.

Methods: Twelve rabbits were divided into control(Group 1) and experimental groups(Group 2, 3, 4)s: Group 2 left unfilled as control; Group 2 tooth ash powder; Group 3 tooth ash powder with platelet-rich plasma; Group 4 tooth ash powder with fibrin sealant(Tissucol Duo QuickⓇ). The 8x8mm calvarial defects were created and filled each tooth ash powder in Group 1 and Group 2, Group 3, unfilled in Group 4. The each group were given a healing time of 4, 8weeks. The animals were sacrificed, defect site were removed for bone samples and histomorphometric analysis using newly bone formation rate was done each animals after 4, 8 weeks.

Results: The newly bone formation rate of group 2,3,4 was significantly higher than group 1(control). The newly bone formation rate of group 3,4 was higher than group 2. But, the difference was not statistically significant in between group 3 and group 4.

Conclusions: From the results above, the platelet-rich plasma and fibrin sealant were proven to regenerated new bone effectively. But, it is also considered that further clinical tests would be required.
