Methods: 40 mandibular first molars of 37 patients with pulpitis and apical periodontitis were randomly divided to two groups. They were obturated with GuttaFlow system and vertical compaction with warm guttapercha respectively. Then the time of obturation, the filling quality and the short stage of clinical therapeutic efficiency of GuttaFlow system were evaluated by radiography and clinical examination.
Results: GuttaFlow group had less obturation time than vertical compaction group(P<0.05). For radiographic quality of obturation and clinical therapeutic efficiency, there was no significant difference between the two groups.
Conclusion: GuttaFlow system is a rapid, simple method for root canal treatment, and the short term of therapeutic efficeincy of GuttaFlow system compared favorably with that of vertical compaction technique.
