Animal Experiment of closing the maxillofacial circle-Skin-Defects with Purse-String Closure

Objectives:To testify the feasibility and advantages of the Purse-String Closure, which was used to close the defects in maxillofacial skin, and to direct the clinic to minimize the scar of skin. Methods:To select 14 SD rats at random. Every rat was excised a circle skin graft , whose diameter was 1cm.Each skin was sutured by Purse-String Closure. On 7th dayA14th day and 21th day after operation, these wounds were observed and measured. Results:The wounds were entirely healing up on 21st day after operation .In terms of the measures of the scars, the mean long-axial diameter (length) decreased by 54 percent, the mean short-axial width (width) decreased by 76 percent, The average width/length ratio decreased by 48 percent, and the mean scar area was only 11 percent of the original area. Conclusions:The Purse-String Closure was a better method to close circle skin defect.
