Prevalence of Torus Mandibularis in HUDH OPD

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the frequency and location of Torus mandibularis, the study further investigates the relationship between age and sex in the sample population. Methods: A total of one thousand nine hundred (1900) subjects, 871 males and 1029 females, ranging in age from 10-80 years were assessed for the prevalence and location of TM. Results: Among 1900 patients selected, 871 (45.85%) were males and 1029 (54.15%) females (figure1). Most patients coming for dental treatment were unaware of the presence of torus mandibularis in their mouth.

Of 1900 subjects studied, 108 (5.6%) had torus mandibularis. The TM was present in 71 (6.89%) females, and 37(4.24%) males. Our result shows that TM is significantly higher in females p > 0.001.

The prevalence of TM between age groups was tested. The ages of the subjects with TM ranged from 10 to 80 years. Our results reveal that the prevalence was significantly higher between age groups: 21-30, 51-60 and 71-80.

Association of unilateral and bilateral prevalence was also tested. Our result revealed that prevalence of bilateral TM is significantly higher than unilateral TM.

The prevalence of bilateral TM within each gender was also evaluated. Our results revealed that bilateral TM was also significantly higher within each gender individually.

Prevalence of Unilateral TM was tested between males and females. Our study revealed that unilateral TM was significantly higher in females.

Prevalence of TM between quadrants was evaluated and our results revealed that prevalence of TM was significantly higher in right quadrant of females. Conclusions: The prevalence of TM among the study group whave following significant result 1. Higher in females. 2. Higher between age groups: 21-30, 51-60 and 71-80. 3. Bilateral occcurance higher than unilatral. 4. higher in Right quadrant in females.
