Bilogical replacement of a tooth

Objectives: The aim of this study is to assess the currently available evidence concerning the indications, contraindications and complications of auto transplantation of teeth in comparison with dental implants.
Methods: Data is extracted from 35 different articles. The possible alternatives to missing tooth including bridge, denture, implants and auto transplants are assessed. The complications, success rates and survival rate of the transplanted tooth is analysed along with the possible indications and contraindications.
Results: One study shows the survival rate of 94.4% and success rate of 87.6% and the other study shows the survival rate of 98.21% and success rate of 89.68%. As compared to implants the overall survival rate of auto-transplanted tooth is 40 years with success rate of 90%. If the tooth gets ankylosed we have sufficient bone to place an implant there.
Conclusions: The overall success rate and survival rate were high despite the methodologic limitations of the included studies and surgical involvement. Among the different alternatives the only biological replacement which has the best survival and success rate is auto transplantation.
