Difference of pain, pre & post pulpectomy, using different irrigants.
Objectives: To compare different irrigant soultions for canal debridement using 6% sodium hypochlorite solution, 0.2% chlorhexidine solution and normal saline solution in terms of mean pain score. Methods: In this clinical trial study, 120 patients with symptomatic irreversible pulpitis were selected and randomly divided into three groups, 40 in each. Hand files were used for preparing the canals and 6 % Sodium Hypochlorite, 0.2 % Chlorhexidine and Normal Saline solutions were used for irrigation of the canals in each group respectively. Questionnaires were given to the patients, asking for the level of their pain. The patients were followed for 6 hours .The data were statistically analyzed. Results: In this study, significant difference was found in reduction of pain in all three groups for each period of time. Although, each group showed no difference for being more potent than other. The reduction of pain after pulpectomy and debridement were almost same for each group. Conclusions: Within the limitations of this study, all three irrigant solutions have significant effect on the reduction of threshold of pre-operative pain.
