Connective tissue graft- the tissue behind the bloom!
Objectives: To evaluate the effectiveness of connective tissue grafting in peri implant soft tissue enhancement Methods: A bone level implant was placed in the upper right lateral incisor area in a young, healthy male adult who lost it in his childhood after an accidental fall. FDBA was grafted to compensate for the buccal defect created due to traumatic loss of buccal cortical plate. Two months post implant placement, the buccal soft tissue thickness appeared deficient and discolored. A connective tissue graft was harvested from the palate and grafted into the buccal soft tissue of the implant. Results: 6 months post-grafting showed better colored and beefed up buccal soft tissue. Thus, eliminating the buccal soft tissue ditch and creating esthetically pleasing results. Conclusions: Connective tissue graft proves to be an effective grafting moadality in areas with soft tissue defects particularly in esthetic areas.
