Giant Cell Tumor of Neck- A Rare Tumor at a Rare Site

Objectives: To discuss clinical, pathological and radiological features, differential diagnosis and management of giant cell tumor of neck.
Methods: Giant cell tumor of bone is a benign tumor that commonly arises in the distal end of long bones.
Giant cell tumor of soft tissue is a rare tumor that is clinically and histologically similar to giant cell tumor of the bone. It is a benign, slow growing, locally aggressive tumor that has the capacity for local recurrence. They occur most frequently in the fingers and only rarely in the head and neck region. Their occurrence in the neck has been reported only a few times in the literature throughout the world. In the present case, we report a case a 30 years old young male presented to us with a non tender slowly growing huge mass of the center of the neck for one and half year. The final pathology report revealed a rare case of giant cell tumor of soft tissue that was treated by radical surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy and the patient is kept under strict follow up
Results: In the present case, we report a case a 30 years old young male presented to us with a non tender slowly growing huge mass of the center of the neck for one and half year. The final pathology report revealed a rare case of giant cell tumor of soft tissue that was treated by radical surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy and the patient is kept under strict follow up.
To date no such huge and locally aggressive tumor arising in the neck and eroding hyoid bone and involving the anterior pharyngeal wall has been reported.
Conclusions: Giant Cell Tumor of soft tissues should be kept in mind in the differential diagnosis of other osteoclast-like giant cell-rich tumors of the neck. Complete surgical removal of the tumor with or without postoperative radiotherapy is the treatment of choice for these tumors.
