The Pattern of Deciduous Teeth Extraction at Hamdard University Dental Hospital
Objectives: The study has been designed to investigate the actual cause of the extraction of the deciduous teeth in pediatrics. We have been motivated for this research as most of the parents neglect the oral hygiene status of their children. This study guides us and helps us to educate and spread awareness in the community, to prevent against the cause of extraction. Methods: Study conduct at oral Surgery Department of Hamdard University, Karachi. All paediatrics reported for extractions with age group 4-16 years. Patients' case records were analysed for demographics, reason(s) for dental extraction, tooth/ teeth extracted, method of extraction and complication(s). Total number of patient was 122 and duration of study was 1 year. Main outcome measure: Reasons for tooth extraction and the pattern of tooth loss. Results: 70% of the teeth were extracted due to caries and incidence of teeth extraction was heighest in mandibular Molar. Males have higher rate of extraction as compare to female. The major cause of tooth extraction is Caries. The “d” and “e” of maxillary and mandibular deciduous teeth are mainly effected and extracted in the Hamdard Dental Hospital. Conclusions: Dental caries are the major cause for extraction of deciduous teeth. Thus special programs should organize for improvement of oral hygine for paediatrics.
