Cone Beam Computed Tomography - Where Circles Become Spheres!

Objectives: To increase the awareness of cone beam computed tomography and its applications in dentistry within general dental practitioners.
Methods: A literature search about “cone beam computerized tomography in dentistry" was done via PubMed articles.
Results: CBCT articles related to oral and maxillofacial surgery, endodontics, implant dentistry,orthodontics, general dentistry,temporomandibular
joints (TMJs),periodontics and forensic dentistry are in the above mentioned order.
Conclusions: CBCT provides a 3 dimensional radiographic image which is more reliable and accurate when compared to conventional dental radiography
There is a reduction in radiation exposure to the patient when compared to conventional CT.
Allow the clinician to visualize the hard and soft tissues of the craniofacial region from multiple perspectives
