Objectives: This research is conducted to evaluate why people from all walks of life are increasinly facing barriers to accessing dental services, what is stopping them to visit dentists. Methods: Conveniently, questionnaire based study was carried out among the citizens of islamabad. The data was then analyzed using SPSS. Results: Majority of the participants were female i.e 138 (69.9%) and were at unergraduate level i.e 112 (56.9%). On the whole, dental anxiety and fear of contracting disease after visiting the dentist are the most cited barriers. Participants having dental anxiety are 113(57.4%) and participants afraid of contracting disease are 100(50.8%). Availabilty of time and affordability of treatment is not a major problem. Conclusions: From this research we conclude that major barriers towards dental visit are dental anxiety and fear of contracting infectious diseases while many minor barriers are patient's fear of someone's bad dental experince and feeling of not being satisfied after treatment.In order to overcome these obstacles we must follow the anxiety protocols inaddition to conducting awareness programs and workshops for educating people about sterlization of intruments.
