Orthodontic And Orthognathic Surgical Management Of Class III Malocclusion In A Female Patient- A Case Report
Objectives: The treatment objectives comprised of decompensation of incisors, alignment, leveling, arch coordination & establishing symmetrical smile line. Sagittal skeletal correction from class III to class I attaining normal molar, canine and incisor relationship and restoring symmetry of the lower face. Methods: The treatment plan+ included pre-surgical orthodontics, surgical preparation, orthognathic surgery comprising Lefort I osteotomy to advance the maxilla and bilateral sagittal split of the mandible followed by post surgical orthodontics.
Results: We attained normal skeletal, Sagittal and vertical relationships, normal dental occlusal relationship, aesthetic smile and symmetry of the face. Conclusions: This case reports on an adult female patient who presented with a complaint of unpleasant appearance due to prominent and steep mandible and inability to bite from the front teeth. On clinical investigations, she was diagnosed as dental and skeletal class III malocclusion due to hyperplastic mandible. The case was managed successfully with a well planned and executed orthodontic-surgical management.
