Prosthetic rehabilitation of Papillon Lefevre syndrome.

Objectives: To provide a set of Complete Dentures to a non affording 16 year old edentulous male patient to restore his aesthetics , mastication and speech.
Methods: Primary impression was taken with impression compound using the muco-compressive impression technique. Primary cast was poured using dental plaster and a special tray was fabricated over it.Secondary impression was taken with special tray using the green stick compound and zinc oxide eugenol impression paste with selective pressure impression technique. Master cast was poured using dental stone.Denture base plate and occlusal rims were constructed and maxillomandibular relationship was recorded.Vertical jaw relation was recorded using the Niswonger's method and horizontal jaw relation with the tactile method.Anterior and posterior tooth setup was done with acrylic teeth arranged in balanced occlusion.After try in verification the denture was processed , finished and insertion was done.Patient was recalled after 24 hours to check for immediate changes.Any complaints of occlusal discrepancies and denture impingement were addressed.Patient was recalled after a week again.
Results: Satisfactory insertion of complete maxillary and mandibular dentures was done.The patient was recalled every 3-6 months for review.
Conclusions:
Papillon Lefevre syndrome has cutaneous as well as dental involvement.The patient faces partial or complete edentulism at a very young age.The dental surgeon is often the first to diagnose the syndrome due to the periodontopathia involved.A systemic approach with dental , dermatological and psychological management is necessary.
