Clinical Assessment of Resorption rate of Autogenous block bone grafts
Objectives: The objective of the present study was to evaluate clinical resorption rate of autogenous block bone graft measured after 6 months of grafting at the time of Implant insertion Methods: 16 grafts were placed in total 10 patients (6: females 4: males). This includes eleven grafts in anterior maxilla & mandible and five grafts in posterior maxilla & mandible. Grafts were harvested from symphysis, retromolar areas & iliac crest. Bone measurements of recipient and block were taken preop, intraop and after 6months at the time of implant placement. Results: Bone resorption occurred only in one graft. Resorption rate after a follow up period of 6 months was 6.6%. Conclusions: The success rate of our block bone grafts was satisfactory. Clinical observation showed a very low rate of resorption after block graft & before implant placement. Therefore on the basis of this study, intraoral /extraoral block grafts can be used successfully and predictibally for augmentation of moderate to severe ridge defects prior to implant placement
