PERIODONTAL HEALTH OF NATURAL ABUTMENTS IN REMOVABLE PARTIAL DENTURE WEARERS.
Objectives: The objective of our study was to investigate the periodontal status between natural tooth in contact with removable partial denture and not in contact with the denture of the same patient. Methods: This study was carried at Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine, Karachi. A total of 60 patients of both gender were included in the study already restored with removable partial denture. The removable partial denture were of different kennedy classfication and denture support modes. A specific questionnaire regarding natural tooth in contact with removable partial denture and not in contact with removable partial denture is based on the following parameters; Gingival index (GI), Plaque Index (PLI) and Calculus Index (CI). Results: The incidence of higher index values for Gingival Index, Plaque Index and Calculus Index was greater for the abutment tooth. Conclusions: The study conclude that the wearing of removable partial dentures had an influence on the status of the periodontal health.
