Role and importance of Dental Nursing

OBJECTIVE: To create awareness on the role and importance of Dental Nursing in Dentistry.

METHOD: Listing of the role and functions of Dental Nurses and their past activities. Record review of treatments carried out by Dental Nurses in Dugbe Dental Centre, and MFU Ring Road Hospital between 2002 and 2005.

RESULTS: A total of 1002 paediatric patients were treated by them during 2002 & 2005 and no complication was recorded. The mean per year was 205. 76.6% of Primary and Secondary Schools visited had not received Dental Health Education.

CONCLUSION: Dental Nurses have great potentials which can be tapped in moving dentistry forward locally and globally in schools and communities. They can also improve the dental health of children through prompt treatment.
