Success rate assessment of third molar autotransplantation
Aim: the aim of this study was to assess a treatment approach in auto transplantation of the third molar with closed apex instead of other molar teeth by using platelet rich plasma(PRP) in order to better heal of the supporting bone around transplanted tooth and exclusion of the epithelial and gingival tissue from the radicular surfaces. Materials &Methods: in this study 16 patients were operated with autotransplantation surgery , 8 cases were control group ( 6 male , 2 female) and 8 cases were test group (3 male , 5 female) , with 22-30 years of age. They regularly came for follow up on the 1 st week, 1 st month , 3 month and 6th month after surgery . post operative clinical assessment included tooth mobility and probing depth in six sites around the transplanted teeth , and periapical radiographs were subsequently evaluated during follow up. In test group we used platelet rich plasma (PRP) around transplanted teeth. Results: statistical analysis ( with 95% validity) demonstrated that there was significant relationship among success criteria (other than ankylosis) and use of platelet rich plasma. Conclusion: we concluded that use of the PRP around transplanted teeth have the potential to increase the success rate of autotransplantation (and other periodontal surgery) of teeth but it suggested that longer follow up studies with greater sample size be performed by future investigations.
