Cystic Lesions Of The Oral Cavity In Libyan Children

Objectives: There are scares information about the true incidence of cystic lesions of the oral cavity in Libyan children. Therefore, the aim of this work is to investigate more about these lesions in children of the Northern East region of Libya.
Methods: The department records included all the cases of Libyan children diagnosed in the period from 2004 to 2016.There were 55 patients diagnosed with cystic lesions. All patients were examined clinically and radio graphically (panoramic),computed tomography (CT), Sex, age, cystic lesion type, site and extension data were recorded.

Results: 37 males and 18 females were identified with cystic lesions. Their age were ranged from 1 month to 15 years old during 12 years.
Mucocele is seen in 29 of 55 cases of cystic lesions. Infected cyst wall and inflammatory cyst wall (some are radicular cysts and some are dentigerous cysts) are 10 and 6 cases respectively, dentigerous cyst is 6 cases, and retention cyst is 3.

Conclusions: The results show that mucocele and infected cyst wall lesions are found to be the most encountered cases in children of Northern east region of Libyan than the other cystic lesions.
