BEHAVIOR OF PATIENTS WHO REQUIRED PROSTHETIC CARE DURING THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC

Objectives: Inquire about the need for dental care that patients attending the IVB Prosthodontics Chair had during the pandemic.
Know the strategies adopted by patients with prostheses.
Analyze the degree of knowledge that patients have about health care.
Methods: An observational and cross-sectional research was carried out through an anonymous and voluntary survey of 82 patients who attended the IV B Prosthodontics Chair of the U.N.C. School of Dentistry. during July and August 2021.
Results: 56% of patients attended private clinics during the pandemic for prosthetic problems. None of them continued treatment due to rehabilitation costs. 34% of patients who already had a prosthesis adapted it themselves in the mouth and / or repaired it using household adhesives. 41% self-medicated due to discomfort or pain. 69.5% of those consulted know that there are health risks when treatment is discontinued. 79.3% recognize that the only professional trained to rehabilitate their mouth is the dentist. 87% of the patients consider that their problem was aggravated by not having visited the dentist before.
Conclusions: We must encourage patients to replace missing dental elements through a prosthesis and the corresponding rehabilitation. We must avoid self-medication by educating about the risks of it. From the information obtained, it could be inferred about the assessment that patients give to timely dental care and extrapolate the data to a larger population to motivate controls and continuity in dental treatments.
