Methods: Orthodontic survey was done for 1394 malocclusion patients of department of orthodontics in Wonkwang University Dental Hospital for 5 years(Oct. 1997 ~ Dec. 2002) using Microsoft Access program(Ver. 2002).
Results: and Conclusions: 1. The number of visiting patients was increased, year by year, but the increasing rate was decreased a little at 1999 and 2002. And the female patients(58.90%) has visited more than the males(41.10%). 2. The percentage of age group from 7 to 12 was the highest(35.94%) and 0-3 ages group was the lowest(0.14%). 3. Geographic distribution showed a majority of patients in Iksan city(56.89%). 4. Anterior crowding showed the highest percentage(29.91%) in chief complaints. 5. Skeletal Class ¥² with mandibular excess showed the highest percentage (27.98%) of the distribution in skeletal dysplasia. 6. Distribution in the types of malocclusion according to the Angle's classification showed; 29.91% for Class ¥°, 28.98% for Class ¥± division 1, 3.59% for Class ¥± division 2 and 34.00% for Class ¥². 7. The percentage of patients who treated with fixed appliance was 79.08%. 8. Four first bicuspids were extracted in the highest percentage(44.49%) of the extraction cases. 9. The mean treatment time was 25.57 months in total (24.77 months in male, 25.58 months in female), and 23.81 months in non-extraction cases, 28.72 months in extraction cases. 10. The number of orthognathic surgery patients was increased by years.
