Fluoride uptake effect through the iontophoresis device on tooth enamel

objectives:To study the more effective ways of prevention in caries, the comparison of fluoride iontophoresis instrument for professional and newly -made fluoride iontophoresis instrument for nonprofessional and the analysis were done.

methods:The author invented two kinds of iontophoresis instrument, one was for professional use and the other was for nonprofessional. Subjects was 19 of extracted human tooth, and EPMA for visual identification and EDS for measurement of fluoride was done. For the sample, the current and the application time was changed.

results:1) To get a phase of iontophoresis, this research used the subjects that was treated by iontophoresis instrument both for professional and nonprofessional and test them by using the EPMA. results indicate that there is no significant difference of efficacy between the two instrument mentioned above. 2) The group of subjects was instructed to apply a 0.2% NaF solution 80 times and 160 times by means of the newly made iontophoresis instruments ( e-coating device) and using the F-ion instrument the group of subjects was received a 2% solution 16 times. the data were then analyzed using EDS test. 3) The data of EDS test suggests that the effectiveness of iontophoresis is analoguos in both instruments

conclusions:In order to maximize the efficacy of iontophoresis, many researches about a propriety fluoride solution and repetition of apply in iontophoresis should be done.
