Evolution of dental techniques related to fixed prosthodontics in Jordan
Objectives: To know the differences between the techniques of the dental industry, old and new, in terms of the difference in the materials used, the most machines that dental technicians needed to purchase to develop their laboratory, the different companies that the dental technician deals with and the impact of development on the profession of the dental industry
Methods: A cross-sectional questionnaire study was conducted to dentists and dental technologists working in Amman, Jordan. It contained general questions of candidate demographics (i.e. name, age, gender, years of experience, and specialization) as well as specialized questions related to each discipline such as variances in techniques and technologies, cost, procedures and materials related to fixed prosthodontics practice in Jordan
Results: Twenty-eight participants completed the questionnaire (36% Dentists and 64% Dental Technologists). The findings indicated a notable evolution in fixed prosthodontics techniques over the years. There was a notable interest in integrating digital solutions into the dental and laboratory workflow such scanners, design softwares and milling/3D printing facilities. Also, a high percentage of dental labs reported being understaffed. The materials used in dental labs have undergone changes, reflecting the industry's pursuit of improved outcomes. There a shift from traditional techniques, such as casting and manual wax-up, to more advanced methods like milling machines and 3D printing. The financial return of laboratories has increased with the development of dental industry techniques in Jordan
Conclusions: There is a high reliance on various digital technologies in the process of manufacturing fixed prosthodontics in Jordan. The development in dental industry techniques has made a clear difference in the results in terms of aesthetics. There was an increased demand for zirconia veneers.
