Purpose: The purpose of this study was to clarify the efficacy of the adjunctive use of subgingival minocycline application plus SRP as compaired with the results of SRP.
Material and Method: Fifteen patients were enrolled in this split mouth clinical trial. Probing depth, clinical attachment level bleeding index and plaque index were evaluated at base line and 16 weeks later. Lesions with a probing depth of 5mm or more selected.
Results: In experimental group, probing depth at base line, and 16th weeks was 6.533 0.834 & 3.466 0.767. Attachment level was 0.655 0.143 & 1.667 0.362. In Control group probing depth at base line and 16th week was 6.337 0.834 & 4.300 0.751. Attachment level was 0.788 0.162 & 1.333 0.362. Bleeding and plaque Index also reduced in both group.
Conclusion: In this clinical trial, the results suggest that SRP with adjunctive subgingival administration of minocycline gel has a significantly better effect compared to SRP alone.
