Effect of GC composite without primer on enamel decalcification during orthodontic treatment, clinical trial

The etched enamel surface is more affected by caries than the non-etched surface and may develop white spot lesion. But if it is protected by Sealant, it has less decalcification. This study was performed to compare the effect of GC composite without primer with control group on the formation of white spot lesion around orthodontic brackets. A split-mouth clinical trial study was performed on the lateral and premolar teeth of 50 patients. After etching and drying the Control quadrant we applied primer on the etched surface then we applied Transbond XT composite and brackets. In the opposite quadrant (case group) we did not apply primer after etching and drying and then we bonded brackets with GC composite without primer . After 6 and 9 months of treatment, we evaluated the caries and formation of WSL with ICDAS II index. We judged the incidence of WSL with chi-square test and the severity of caries at each time (within each group) and between two time periods with wilcoxon test. The data showed that WSL entity and caries amount Between case and control at each follow-up time (first P=0.007) (second P=0.003) And in both case and control groups between the first and second follow-up times was statistically significant.
