Correlation between facial proportions and anterior teeth dimension

Size and shape of anterior maxillary teeth are the most important factors in esthetic reconstructions. Anterior maxillary teeth should be in harmony with facial proportionsin order to result in a natural smile. Esthetic is an important parameter in patients demanding prosthodontic treatments. Loosing anterior maxillary teeth motivates people to seek dental treatment and selecting appropriate size in these patients needs artistic and scientific talents. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the relationship between the size of anterior maxillary teeth and facial proportions. This is a correlational based research. 74 people who were between 22-31 years old consist of 31 women and 43 men participate in this study. Both direct (on the face) and indirect (on digital photos) measurements of different facial proportions related to eyes, nose and lipswere done in this study. Anterior maxillary tooth size was also measured directly. T test was used to analyze data. The results of the study showed that in female gender inter commissural distance is correlated to sub of four and six anterior maxillary teeth width. In male gender inner contous distance is correlated to sub six anterior maxillary teeth width. In conclusion it can be declared that by noting racial and gender differences, facial proportions can be used to asses anterior maxillary tooth size.
