Evaluation of fracture resistance in teeth restored with intra-canal post

Introduction: The reconstruction and maintenance of severely damaged anterior primary teeth is a major challenge for pediatric dentists. The aim of this study is to investigate the fracture resistance of primary canine teeth restored with flowable and packable composite materials as an intra-canal post. Methods: This in vitro study was performed on 30 freshly extracted canine teeth. After the crown was cut off, pulpectomy was done and the root canal was filled with zinc oxide eugenol paste, then a linear layer was applied to the root canal filling. The specimens were then randomly divided into two groups of fiftheen teeth. Group 1:after etching and bonding, intracanal posts were prepared by embedding core-flo composite in group1 and Z250 composite in group 2 inside the channel.Group 2: after etching and bonding intracanal posts were prepared by Putting Z250 composite inside the channel then reconstruction of the crowns were done with Z250 composite for both groups. The samples were mounted in acrylic blocks and inserted in deionized water for 72 hours. After verifying the normal distribution of data, the fracture resistance of the restorations was measured using UTM and the data were analyzed using T-test.Also,Exact pearson chi-square test was used to examine the type of failure in two groups. The p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results : The mean fracture resistance of the first group (±328.69) was 830.33 N and in the second group (±326.45), it was 803.09 N. The analyzed data did not show a significant difference between the mean fracture resistance(P-value = 0.822) and the failure type(P-value = 0/79) in the first and second groups. Conclusion : According to the results, and also the ease of use and proper adhesion of the core-flo composite, it seems that its application in the reconstruction of anterior primary teeth is associated with success.
