Amalgam Tattoo Removal with Diode Laser: A Case Series Study

Introduction: Amalgam tattoo is one of the common pigmented lesions in the oral cavity. Amalgam tattoos is created through emerging of the Amalgam particles into the damaged oral mucosa during amalgam filling placement or discoloring of the soft tissue close the amalgam filling over time. The aim of this article is to describe the successful use of a diode laser for removal of amalgam tattoo Methods: Three patients with amalgam tattoo on the alveolar ridge in edentulous area and also at the attached gingiva were treated in one session with diode laser 980 nm. Three treatments were followed during one month. Results : After one month follow up, a successful treatment was observed clinically without any adverse sequelae. Conclusion : Diode laser based on the laser protocol applied in this study can be used for amalgam tattoo removal safely and effectively.
