Laser Application in Orthodontics

Objectives: The role of low level laser in Orthodontic Tooth Movement (OTM), Orthodontically Induced Inflammatory Root Resorption, tooth movement acceleration, and administration of laser therapy as a mean for anchorage preparation in orthodontics will be presented in the workshop.

Low level Laser (GaAlAs) irradiation together with the application of DFDBA in extraction socket led to the limited amounts of the stimulated orthodontic tooth movements. By using the DFDBA in combination with low level laser administration, socket preservation will be enhanced.

LLLT have influence on condylar growth in experimental animals and also can eliminate the TMJ pain following administration according to the protocols. Soft tissue laser intervention and management can be used for facilitating eruption of the teeth under fibrotic gingiva.

Low level laser therapy serves as an adjuvant to the orthodontic treatment while establishing the proper occlusion of stomatognathic system has pivotal role in function and stability of outcome.
