Materials & Methods: In this experimental study, 10 patients (5girls and 5 boys) were chosen. These patients were treated by removable appliance (with screw). Dental casts were made before and after treatment. Anterior arch length (Distance between Midline to the line that connected Canine tips) and posterior arch length (Distance between midline to the line that connected first Molars central Fossa) determined before and after treatment by digital pliers. The data were evaluated by paired t-test.
Results: The mean difference between pre-treatment and post treatment Ant. Arch length was 0.6mm ± 0.69mm (significant) and their correlation coefficient was 0.983. The mean difference between pretreatment and post treatment posterior arch length was: 1.3mm ± 0.48mm (significant) and their correlation coefficient were 0.987.
Conclusion: According to our results, removable appliances used for maxillary transverse expansion, also can increase arch length and so. They can be used for mild to moderate crowding correction or mild reverse overjet treatment.
