An in vitro study on anti-microbial activity of aqueous and organic extracts of internal shell of walnut against of some oral microbial strain. NOT PRESENTED
Back ground & Aim: Microorganisms are the main etiologic causes of periodontal diseases and dental caries. Anti-microbial agents with mechanical debridment (as the main treatment) can help us eliminating microbial factor. Use of therapeutic herbs because of their natural type has been considered as a strategy. The aim of this study was to evaluate antimicrobial effect of aquatic and organic extract of internal shell of walnut against some bacterial strain. Materials and methods: In this in vitro study, each of the eight strains of bacteria was cultured in blood agar and Mular Hintone media. Paper disk (with 6mm diameter) containing aqueous& organic extract were located on this media, and measured inhibition zone was measured following 24 hours. To compare effect of aquas extract, data were analyzed statistically by T test. Results: The final results of measuring the inhibition zone diameters after 24h are summarized in table 1.as you see, the most and least inhibition zone diameters are in order related to A.viscuses and Staph.epidermis. Of course, the efficiency of the organic extract on L. acidophilus, A.viscuses, staph.aureus and strep.sanguis was more than the efficiency of the aquatic extract .this difference was significant statistically. The efficiency of the aquatic extract on p.gingivalis and staph.epidermis was more than organic ones and it was significant statistically. None of the extracts affected the mouth streps (strep.mutans ,strep.salivaris, strep.sanguis). Conclusion: In our study, the effects of aquatic and organic anti microbial extracts of the internal shell of walnut on some strain were examined. The aquatic extract effect on A.viscuses and Staph. Epidermis was high, on staph.aureus was moderate, on p.gingivalis, L. acidophilus was low and it didn't have any effect over strep.mutans, strep.salivaris, strep.sanguis. The effect of the organic extract on Staph.epidermis, staph.aureus was moderate, on A.viscuses was high,on L. acidophilus, strep.sanguis , p.gingivalis was low and on strep.mutans ,strep.salivaris it had no effect .
