Efficacy Of Intraligamentary Injection Of Depo-medrol On The Endodontic Pain
Objectives: Pain management in endodontics has been a major challenging especially in teeth with irreversible pulpitis. The purpose of this study was t determine the effect of intraligamentary injection of Depo-medrol on the intensity of post-operative endodontic pain in the tooth with symptomatic irreversible pulpits. Methods: Sixty qualified samples were divided randomly in three groups. All teeth had received an inferior alveolar injection in lower jaw and infiltration injection in upper jaw and before the beginning of the treatment the primary group received an injection of 0.4 ml (0.2 ml in mesiobuccal and 0.2 ml in distobuccal) of Depo-medral and in the control groups: (1): nothing was injected an (2): Lidocaine was injected (0.4 ml of 2% Lidocaine with EP 1/180000). Then the patient’s pain evaluated with Visual Analogue Scale analysis (VAS) 0-170 mm in the intervals of 6, 12,24,48,72 hours and 1 week after the treatment. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between demographic finding(p<0.7) and it appeared that the experimental group (Depo-medrol) has shown better pain reduction than others in 6,12,24 hours after injection(p<0/001). Conclusions: Under the limitation of studies Depo-medrol may be effective for reducing the postoperative endodontic pain in patients suffering from irreversible pulpitis.
