Clinical and Radiographic Evaluation of a Novel Triangular Implant Neck Design: an 8- to 24 Months Prospective Case Series

Objectives: The objective of this study was to evaluated the radiographic and clinical efficacy of a novel triangular neck implant configuration in partial edentulous patients.
Methods: Sixteen patients received twenty five implants inserted in both maxillary and mandibular healed edentulous ridge. Implants diameter were between 3.3 and 3.9 mm and various lengths were used. 12 were placed in females and 4 in males (range 20-65; mean age 58.3). Clinical and radiographic measurements were performed immediately after the implant crown was placed and evaluated postoperatively for a mean period of 21.81 months (range: 8 to 24 months). The interproximal peri-implant bone level was the primary outcome and was registered mesially and distally, and mean value was calculated. Secondary outcomes included: Probing Deph (PD), bleeding on probing (BoP) and the type of implant crown retention. Paired Ttest was used to compare the radiographic and clinical outcomes between baseline and follow-up.
Results: Statistical significance was found between baseline mesial and followup mesial site in the maxilla (baseline: 0.39 (0.31); followup: 0.65 (0.30), p = 0.046), no other statistically significant differences were found. Similarly, no significant differences were found for the clinical parameters and type of crown retention.
Conclusions: Within the limitations of the present study, it could be concluded that this novel triangular neck bone level implant design could be used by the clinician in a safe and effective way in partially edentulous patients. Controlled clinical studies are required to confirm the present findings.
