Treating open caries lesions in anxious children with ozone

Treating anxious children with dental caries is always a challenge. The most common options are hypnosi s, laughing gas, premedication, conscious sedation and general anaesthesia. The main problem is that the treatment under sedation does not change the children's cooperation. Ozone is a gas, which kills microorganisms fast. A recently published study suggested that the treatment of root caries with ozone and fluoride is an alternative to conventional treatment of root caries. This lecture will focus on the impact of an ozone based simple treatment regime on small anxious children. The possibility to reduce dental anxiety in children using an ozone-delivering device to arrest caries will be discussed. Arrestment of caries increases the confidence of anxious children in the dentist, which makes future conventional treatments easier.
