A Clinical Survey on the Developed Cervical Lesions
Objective: The study was aimed to clinically survey on the formation and development of cervical lesions. Methods: For 2 years between August in 2002 and July in 2004, 209 patients (male: 118, female: 91) who had unfilled cervical lesions were surveyed at their first visits. Evaluation items were (1) age of the patients, (2) teeth of the lesions, (3) classification of the lesions (angular or saucer shape), (4) the way of brushing (frequency per day, handling hands of the brush, methods and use of dental paste) and (5) bruxism. The data obtained were analyzed with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney tests at the 5% level of significance. Results: The total lesions found were 1133 (angular shape: 475 and saucer shape: 658). The mean of the lesions per patients were 1.75 (22-29y), 5.52 (30-39y), 4.58 (40-49y), 6.19 (50-59y), 5.59 (60-69y) and 5.12 (over 70y), by generation. The first formation of the lesion appeared at the first premolars. Bruxism had a direct influence on the increase in the lesions (p<0.05), while the other items were not associated with the development of the lesions (p>0.05). Conclusion: The results showed that the cervical lesions were formed first at the first premolars and facilitated with bruxism.
