Immediate loading of one-piece implants: 1 year clinical follow-up

Objectives: The aim of this study was to evaluate the immediate loading procedure of one-piece implants (Nobel Direct®, U.S.A.). Methods: 18 edentolous sites were selected in 10 different non smokers patients, without systemic pathologies. CT Scan evaluation showed the absence of osseous defects and residual vertical height greater than 11mm. Surgical and prosthetic protocol included the placement of 18 one-piece implants and the immediate provisional prosthetic rehabilitation, 11 out 18 implants were 3.5 mm diameter; and 10.5 mm length, 3 were 4.3 mm diameter; and 10.5 mm length, 1 was 3.5 mm diameter; and 13 mm length, and 1 was 4.3 mm diameter and 13 mm length. Results: Follow-up clinical controls at 15 days, 1,3,6 and 12 months were carried out with the assessment of the following parameters: P.P.D.,C.A.L., B.O.P., mobility, GI and intraoral Rx exams with Parallel Beam Technique.3 out 18 implants were considered failed because of great mobility (grade III), P.P.D and C.A.L. deeper than 7mm and were explantated, 2 out 3 were lost after 15 days, the last one after 1 month. One-year follow up showed an 83.4% success rate and all patients reported high satisfaction and comfort. Conclusion: In conclusion, this one-piece implant procedure allows, in selected patients to rehabilitate edentulous sites reducing hugely treatment and cost times, with minimal discomfort for patients and excellent aesthetic results.
