Comprehensive Dental Treatment of Children under General Anesthesia

Objectives:The aim of this study was to describe the characteristic and dental procedures of children treated under general anesthesia.

Methods: In this study records of 61 boys, 33 girls totally 94 children attending the general anesthesia (GA) clinic during a 12-months period were analyzed according to age,gender, anesthesia time,operation time,indications for dental teatments. The dental procedures were evaluated seperately in decidious, mixed and permanent detitions..

Results:The total number of dental procedures provided for all patients were 369 extractions, 360 restorative procedures, 116 endodontic procedures and 17 preventive procedures. The mean duration of anesthesia time were determined as 55,02±15,59 min. and operation time for the dental procedures were determined as 33,38±13,04 min.

Conclusion: The results of this study revealed high extraction rate and low procedures as characteristics of dental applications in children treated under GA. Effective preventive applications and oral hygene practices must be combined with operative treatments.
