Apical Microleakage Of Roekoseal: An Electrochemical Evaluation
Objectives: The apical leakage of the root canal fillings performed with RSA RoekoSeal solely and in combined with gutta-percha were evaluated electrochemically. Materials and methods: Forty eight maxillary anterior teeth were divided into two groups. Twenty-four teeth (group 1) were filled solely with RSA RoekoSeal alone and 24 teeth (group 2) were filled with RSA RoekoSeal in combined with laterally condensed gutta-percha. Two teeth were used as positive and two teeth were used as negative control groups (n=52). An experimental cell was constructed which was connected with a constant current source. One per cent potassium iodide (KI) solution was added to the cell as the electrolyte and later the teeth were immersed in this solution. Copper electrodes with 1 mA (milliampere) conductance capacity were used as anodes to complete the circuit. The results were recorded daily, with a digital voltmeter which is connected to the experimental cell, for a total of 21 days. The changes in amount of leakage on the day basis within the groups were evaluated with a t-tests for dependent samples and the difference between two groups was analyzed with t-test for independent samples. Results: RSA RoekoSeal showed some leakage from day 1 to 21 among the days in the each group and overall (p<0.05).The amount of apical leakage of RSA RoekoSeal solely and in combined with gutta-percha were evaluated on the day basis and overall. The result statistically was not significant (p>0.05). Conclusion:RSA RoekoSeal can be used solely without any additional risk to fill the root canals similar to Endo-Fill.
