Comparison of DMFT and SiC Scores of 12-year-old Turkish Children

Objectives: To calculate and present caries prevalence and to compare the DMFT and SiC (Significant Caries Index) scores in a group of 12-year-old children among 1993-2002 according the years. Methods: The data of the children were examined retrospectively in order to calculate the DMFT scores and a developed Excel application was used for calculating SiC Index. The DMFT and SiC values according to the years were compared by Kruskal Wallis test and to determine the significant differences among years Mann-Whitney U test was used. Results: The mean DMFT varied from 2.03 and 2.87, while SiC indices varied from 4.45 and 5.66. In 1997 the DMFT and SiC indices showed minimum, in 1999 DMFT and SiC indices showed maximum values. Conclusion: The DMFT and SiC scores were found proper with WHO criteria and that was hopeful for the following years for Turkish children.
