Objectives: The objective of this presentation is to enable the audience to understand how to write a case report as well as case series. Methods: Introduction: Case reports and case series are the preliminary or basic observational study designs. A case report describes and discusses a particular disease in a patient. It describes important scientific observations that may be unique. Case series, reports on the systematic collection of a set of cases of a disease (or similar problem) which are derived from either the practice of health care professionals or a health care setting, like a hospital. Results: Discussion: This presentation will determine what types of cases are worth reporting and why. It will also aim at explaining how to structure a case report or a case series. It will describe the target audience to reach and what journals to publish in, as well as, understand the ethics of publishing. A case report is information on an interesting clinical case encountered in the practice of dentistry. It is like telling a story of an interesting condition that presents in clinical practice. It should be clear, short and useful for reporting an unusual condition. It is the written form of a presentation of a case history. Case reports are the lowest cadre of evidence-based medicine. Case series on the other hand are several case reports, of a similar condition, that are put together. Clinical case-series are of value in epidemiology for studying symptoms and signs, creating case definitions, clinical education, audit and research. Conclusions: Conclusions:The essential characteristic of a publishable case report/case series is educational value. They can be powerful and instructional. Writing case reports is one of the best ways to get started in medical writing. A case-series is really a register of cases.
