Assessment of PEEK Telescopic Attachment with Two Different Matrix Materials for Implant Retained Overdentures

Objectives: Evaluation of Poly Ether Ether Ketone telescopic attachment with different matrix materials (PEEK, Titanium) for implant retained mandibular overdenture
Methods: Fourteen completely edentulous patients were selected for this clinical study, each patient had two implants in the mandibular canine region using surgical guide. (CAD/CAM) PEEK telescopic attachment was fabricated to retained over denture, 7 patients the matrix part of attachment were constructed by (CAD/CAM) PEEK (GA) and other 7 patients matrix part of attachment was constructed by (CAD/CAM) Titanium (GB). Finally direct pick-up of matrix was done. Peri-implant soft tissue health (modified bleeding index, modified plaque index, modified gingival index, propping depth), Retention and peri-implant vertical bone loss and density evaluation were carried out at time of over denture insertion (T0), after 6 months use (T6) and After 12 months used (T12).
Results: No statistically significant difference for all measured peri-implant soft tissue health parameters except propping depth there was significant decrease for two groups with time. For peri-implant vertical bone loss there was highly significant difference decrease with time for two groups and there was highly significant difference for comparing two groups at 6 months and 12 months but there is no significant difference at insertion. For Bone density: there were highly significant difference decrease with time for two groups and there was highly significant difference for comparing two groups at 6 months and 12 months but there is no significant difference at insertion. For retention values there was highly significant decrease with time for each group and highly significant difference for comparing two groups in each interval
Conclusions: Two groups had same peri-implant soft tissue health. (GA) more tolerable than (GB) for soft tissue and bone around the implant. (GA) less retentive than (GB).
