Method: All patients included in this study, were treated in Mikias Dental Service Addis Ababa, Ethiopia between the years 2008-20012. Mikias Dental Service is the first dental service in Ethiopia owned by a dental professional. The dental service is headed by an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon whose basic education was Dentistry and specialized in Maxillofacial Surgery by studying medicine. Further skills in Orthodontics, Prosthodontics, Endodontic, and implant dentistry were added. In the study patients under the age of 18 and patients who visited the clinic for simple dental treatment were not included. Patients are classified according to their age, sex, diagnosis, treatment result and final satisfaction.
Result: The clinic registered more than 6000 patients in the five years. Out of which 2500 patients were chosen for this study. When we made the patient selection we considered the importance of the case for the study and significance of scientific interest. Among the 2500 patients 1419 were female and 1081 male. Maxillofacial surgery was done in 199 patients among whom 96 were female and 14 male. 8 were tumor patients 7 female and 1 male. 87 patients were treated with tattoo removal 79 female and 8 male respectively.
Conclusion: The outcome of the study shows that the treatments given to the patients were all successful except 5 endodontic treatments. Root canal treatment on 5 patients failed and extraction was done after 1 year.
