Latin-American Cariology Teaching Framework Implementation
Objectives: This symposium aims to share the regional and national development and implementation route of this Framework, to show the first results of regional implementation and to encourage the participation of Colombian faculties/programs. During the presentations, the process to reach agreement on the Framework and the methodological strategy for its initial implementation will be shown. Progress in implementation in Latin America will be discussed, based on a diagnosis of cariology teaching in eight faculties in the region and the formulation of action plans. Finally, the implementation plan in Colombia will be presented as well.
Methods: In spite of that, the extent of its academic implementation in the region has been variable, even being almost absent in some universities. To address this challenge, a team led by LAOHA (Latin American Oral Health Association) and UNICA, academic and professional associations and regional faculties, developed and agreed on the Latin American Cariology Teaching Framework (2022), to guide dental schools. This Framework is structured into five domains, 10 main and 85 specific competencies.

Results: The socialization of the Framework at the national level will favor the knowledge of the participants about its development process and the progress in the implementation that has been performed in eight faculties/programs in the region. In addition, it is intended to encourage the participation of Colombian faculties in the implementation, raising awareness about the importance of joining the joint process.
It is expected to increase - at the level of Colombian dental faculties/programs - the recognition of the regional development and implementation route of the Latin-American Cariology Teaching Framework.
