EATING DISORDERS USING the SCOFF QUESTIONNAIRE in DENTISTRY STUDENTS in CARTAGENA
Objectives: Describe the results of the SCOFF test in three Dentistry programs in Cartagena. Methods: Descriptive cross-sectional study in 2022. Using non-probabilistic and purposive sampling. Resolution 008430 of 1993 and the Declaration of Helsinki were considered, and institutional ethics endorsement and informed consent were requested from participants. A questionnaire was used for the collection of demographic variables, and for the ED, the SCOFF questionnaire was attached, which is very sensitive, specific, translated and validated in Colombia.
Data were analyzed in IBM SPSS software, calculating internal consistency, descriptive analysis assuming 95% confidence intervals. To establish an association between demographic variables, individual risk in each item and overall risk for eating disorders, the Chi2 test with a decision limit of 0.05 was applied. Results: 61.3% of the participants were women. The mean age was 20.67 years (SD=2.91). A total of 31.1% were at risk for eating disorders. Statistically significant association between being a woman and an increased risk of eating disorders. Conclusions: Although the number of students at risk of eating disorders is less than a third of those evaluated, it is necessary to raise awareness of the issue and formulate interventions to minimize the risk and prevent cases of eating disorders that can negatively affect students who will be future dental professionals.
