Objectives: Yeast identification in oral cavity from ASA I adult patients of university dental clinics of 9 cities from Colombia. Methods: This research was conducted in "ASA 1" patients of university dental clinics of nine Colombian cities Armenia, Bogota, Bucaramanga, Cucuta, Ibague, Neiva, Palmira, Popayan and Villavicencio. After authorization by signing the informed consent (resolution 8430 of 1993), the dentist made an oral clinical evaluation and conducted an inquiry to the patient and took a sample of oral cavity in the morning without brushing and fasting. Yeast identification was made at the laboratory of medical microbiology of the corporation for biological research (CIB) by classical microbiological techniques (API) and molecular (MALDI-TOF-MS "Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization time Mass Spectrometry-of-flight"). Results: A total of 98 samples were obtained: Armenia 21, Bogotá 10, Cúcuta 10, Ibagué 10, Neiva 10, Palmira 10, Villavicencio 10, Bucaramanga 8 and Popayán 9. 63% were women and 37% men, between 18 and 70 years old. 59% (58 patiens) were positives for the fungal presence, 14 had mixed infection and 72 fungal species were identified: C. albicans: 63%, C. parapsilosis: 25,8%, C. glabrata: 6,8%, C. tropicalis: 6,8%, C. dubliniensis: 5,1%, C. guilliermondii: 3,4%, Rhodotorula: 3,4%, C. krusei: 1,7%, Saccharomyces cerevisiae: 1,7%, Candida sp different to Candida albicans: 1,7%, Geotrichumsp: 1,7%, Fusarium sp: 1,7%. Conclusions: It is the first national study that combines classic microbiological identification with a molecular methodology as MALDITOF that is usefull in proteomics analysis. On the other hand we found that the C. albicans and C. parapsilosis were the most frequently yeast found in immunocompetent patients.
