CHANGES ON THE PREVALENCE OF DENTAL CARIES AMONG CHILDREN WITH VERTICAL TRANSMISSION OF HIV/AIDS FROM THE HIV PEDIATRIC CLINIC OF CALI, COLOMBIA, 2013
Objectives: Determine the point and Lifetime Prevalence of Dental caries in children that are pediatric patients with HIV/AIDS infection in the HIV pediatric Clinic of Cali, Colombia and its variation according to the Classification system Methods: A descriptive prevalence Study was conducted. Consecutive 101 Medical records of children between 1 and 17 years of age diagnosed with HIV/AIDS vertical transmission of the HIV pediatric Clinic of Cali, Colombia were evaluated. The diagnosis of caries by ICDAS criteria was made in the clinic with (calibrated dentist) and the prevalence was determined according to the different degrees of severity. The lifetime prevalence of caries was determined (including any trace of the disease: decayed, sealed or lost) and point prevalence of caries (including untreated cavities only). These variations were correlated with the patient's immune stage. The project was supported by the Institutional Ethics Committee. Results: The Prevalence of lifetime caries in children with HIV, including ICDAS lesions 1-6 was 86,1% and the Point prevalence of active caries was 81,1%, with an index of teeth decayed, sealed and lost of 5,7 SD 5,5. In Permanent dentition, the lifetime prevalence of caries was 82,0% and in Temporal dentition was 84,1% and the point prevalence was 74,15 and 73,2% respectively . These prevalence are considerably reduced without the inclusion of the housing stages, reporting a punctual prevalence of Caries ICDAS 5-6 of 34,7% with an index of 1,5 to 1,89. Conclusions: The Children with HIV of the Pediatric Clinic have a high prevalence of caries when pre cavitational and cavitational lesions are evaluated, finding the necessity to implement management decisions for each and one of the stages. 47% of incipient lesions cease to be diagnosed when only cavitational lesions were diagnosed which produced an underreporting of the incipient lesions
